Originating back to the 1800s, Rugby is one of the most popular sports in the world and has over 6.6 million registered players worldwide. With modern day rugby consisting of strict regulations and rules, we’re providing guidance based on our experience with clubs such as the Sports Wales Rugby Pitch and Nant Conwy RFC.

The Standards

In terms of lighting, Rugby has many different regulations depending on both unions and levels of play. Rugby has many governing bodies including the Rugby Football Union, Welsh Rugby Union, Irish Rugby Union, World Rugby and not forgetting the British Standards BS EN 12193.

Once you know which union your site falls under, you can find the accurate lux levels and uniformity from the standards for your site. Without compliance to these levels, you could risk playing at incorrect levels and also cause other complications such as obtrusive light.

Below we have included a table to highlight the different levels of play for the standards and the lux levels and uniformity required.
